Fr. Mike Delaney, C.S.C. had an idea for a class for high school seniors at St. George's College in Santiago. Fr. Delaney wanted an honors course that would challenge students to think deeply about building a better world. Hence, a seminar on "Peace and Conflict Resolution" was born with a special focus on Africa. Today, Fr. Claude Pomerleau, C.S.C and Fr. Don McNeill, C.S.C. were guest lecturers.
While Fr. Claude is a tenured political science professor at the University of Portland (OR), he is a former rector of St. George's College, and he recently was a visiting professor at Uganda Martyr's University, the only Catholic university in Uganda.
"Padre Don," as he is affectionately known to many Notre Dame alumni, directed the Center for Social Concerns on the campus. His work led many students to engage social problems and to think critically about the place that faith plays in their response.
In the photo, Padre Don speaks to the students, while his friend, Fr. Claude, looks on from behind.
