In my time in Santiago, I have gotten to know members of the Club de Planeadores de Vitacura (Sailplane Club of Vitacura-- a suburb of Santiago). Santiago, with the nearby Andes, is blessed with good wind coming off the Pacific, and the mountains give some upward drafts that make for exciting flights.
Annually, the local aerodromo hosts a Grand Prix sailplane competition. Basically, visiting the Club is a nice way to spend some time.
This photo shows the wind sock registering a pretty good breeze. I happened to align it such that the sun was behind it, as well.
