Fr. Carlos Delaney, C.S.C. was ordained a priest in 1949-- the '49ers. Most of his priesthood has been in Chile, and the biggest part of that has been at the Centro Pastoral San Roque, where Padre Carlos works with alcoholics, addicts, and their families. It may well be the first particular parish in the world to serve specifically those with substance abuse issues and their families. Today, Archbishop Ricardo Ezzati honored Padre Carlos for his work in support of the family at the annual kick-off the new pastoral year. (Here, in Chile, school starts in March and ends in December; summer is January and February.) In the photo is Padre Carlos on the left, and Mons. Cristian Precht, the vicar for pastoral ministry, on the right. Congratulations, Padre Carlos: a priest for more than 62 years, and he turns 90 years-old next month.
Also, today, the Congregation of Holy Cross celebrates the profession of perpetual vows by Rodrigo Valenzuela, C.S.C. Rodrigo professed his vows at St. George's College in Santiago, where he teaches. Fr. David Tyson, C.S.C., the provincial, came from the U.S. to receive Rodrigo's vows. Congratulations, Rodrigo!
