Titanium La Portada

The tallest structure in Chile, El Torre Titanium La Portada sits across the street from the U.S. Embassy in Santiago's financial district, El Golf.  To some, the neighborhood is better known as "Sanhattan," evoking the mix of Santiago and that financial center to the north.

The building measures 636 ft, 52 floors above ground and an additional seven below ground.  Construction began in 2007 with an expected completion date in 2008.  As it turns out, the building was inaugurated on May 3, 2010 (not long after the Feb. 27, 2010 earthquake that rocked Chile).

The building is built to withstand a 9.0 earthquake and sustained no damage on Feb. 27, 2010.

The building is also the first green, LEED certified building in Chile.
