For couples who are conducting a program of pregnancy, intercourse should be done when women in the fertile period or periods in which eggs in the ovaries are ripe and ready to be fertilized.
Currently there are several ways to determine the fertile period, but experts say do the urine test is the most accurate way than the calendar method.
"SDM is important to know when the last menstrual cycle is 28 or 30 days. But if you really want to get pregnant, the calendar method is not recommended," said Jayne Ellis's head of medical research and SPD Swiss Precision Diagnostics.
According to a study team, the accuracy in knowing the calendar method of fertility found in only 1 in 4 women, whereas the urine test to predict up to 99 percent.
Calendar method used by about 35 percent of women. This method is using the menstrual cycle and calculate the mid-menstrual period, or about the 14th day or 15th from the first day of menstruation as an estimate of fertility.
Research carried out Ellis and her team conducted on 101 women who collected their urine samples on a total of 895 menstrual cycles and then compared the accuracy of determining the fertile period with the calendar method and urine tests.
"Calendar method is less accurate in predicting the fertile period and know the peak days of ovulation. This is because the data used to use before the menstrual cycles of data are naturally fickle," he said.
Determination of the fertile period with urine tests are now made practical as possible as well as the pack test for pregnancy. Consumers just enter the urine sample into the device to detect the hormone luteinising hormone (LH) which triggers ovulation.
