Things worth knowing about beer | Deccan Chronicle

It is the most widely drunk alcoholic beverage in the world and also the oldest. Man learnt to brew beer at around the same time he started baking bread. The Chinese were drinking it 500 years back.

However, there’s perhaps nothing more depressing in a party than flat beer. But instead of pouring it down the drain, here are some useful uses of beer gone flat. Tenderise your meat: Beer is an excellent meat tenderiser and it gives a different flavour to the meat which yogurt or conventional tenderisers cannot. Pour a glassful of beer on tough meet for an hour (overnight is best) and see the difference.

Remove tea, coffee stains from rugs: Getting rid of tea or coffee stains from carpets and rugs is next to impossible. Instead of running for industrial strength cleaners, which can harm your rug, just dab some beer on to a cloth and rub at the stain. It should come clean off. Do this a few times to get rid of the stain altogether. Polish your gold jewellery: Get the shine back in your old jewellery (without stones) by polishing it with a cloth dipped in beer. Wipe with a dry cloth and see your gold glisten. Condition your hair: Mix some flat beer with a bit of warm water and let it settle. After shampooing, rinse your hair with the beer water and leave it on for a couple of minutes before washing it off. You will love the difference.
