Dilhi University colleges declare 2nd list; Eco, B Com closed |SRSC college

A number of sought after colleges of Delhi University closed admissions to the popular B Com (Hon) and Economics (Hons) courses for general category students today after recording admissions in excess of sanctioned seats over the last four days.

However, for OBC students seats were still available in almost all top most colleges that brought out their second cut off lists today.

Top B.com college in India, The Sri Ram College of Commerce declared its admissions closed for both B Com and Eco honours after taking in 161 and 10 extra admissions in both these courses for the general category. For the OBC category a second cut-off list was announced at 92 to 96 per cent in B Com(H) and 92.75 to 95.75 in Eco(H).

It was amply evident that the colleges, which have come out with second lists, have indeed exercised caution and had not lowered cut-offs substantially.

Besides SRCC, the admissions in the general category in B Com (hons) closed in Hindu college, Ramjas, Daulat Ran, Dyal Singh and Shaheed Bhagat Singh colleges, among others.

The Eco (hons) course was closed in Hindu, Miranda, Ramjas and Shaheed Bhagat Singh, among others.

Among the colleges that declare a second cut-off list for Commerce, Kirorimal put it at 95.5 to 96.75, while Sri Venkateshwar declared it at 95.5 to 97. Other colleges in this category were Gargi, Hansraj, Lady Sri Ram and Deshmukh

Mumbai twins have same results in class XII | Identical twins score identical marks in class XII exams

Mumbai: Competition between the twin brothers started at the time of their birth, with one seeing the light of the world two minutes before the other.

After 16 years the race is still on, but this time it ended in a tie with both the siblings scoring the same percentage 90.73 in the SSC exams.

Family, friends and teachers of Pratik and Purvik Gohil, residents of Kandivli, could not believe their ears when they were told that the twins had scored the same marks.

According to family members, the twins who were classmates since childhood, were born competitors as they defeated each other almost alternatively. But this time in the board and pre-board exams, they ended up in a tie.

Purvik and Pratik studied at Shivram Singh Sanman Singh English High School in Bhandup.

Pratik Gohil (16), said, "I used to study for around four hours daily, but started spending more time with books in the last three months of the exam. I always kept my cool and never panicked.

"As I am a diehard cricket fan, I watched all the World Cup matches and even the IPL. I think we did better in the exam because our parents did not burden us with their dreams and demands."

He added, "I was expecting more then 95 per cent, but 90 per cent is not bad either. It's just a coincidence that Purvik and I scored the same.

"I think the best-five system has proved helpful for SSC students. I think oral exams and internal assignments, in which examinees invariably score well, have helped reduce students' stress."

Purvik had an interesting story to share about their oral exams. "When I reached school to give the exam, the teacher refused to let me do it saying I had already appeared for it. This is where our identical looks and similar voice play spoilsport. After I convinced her that the one who gave the exam was my twin, she finally allowed me to take the exam. I am happy with the marks we have got. We both wish to do engineering but in different subjects. As of now, we have decided to take admission in Thakur College."

Nikesh Gohil, father of Purvik and Pratik said, "We were surprised to know their percentage. It's a coincidence and it is by God's grace that they scored so well. Their mother burst into tears seeing their percentage. I am very proud of them today."

Kerala girl scored 100% in all subjects

FOR M. S. Shreelakshmi, a student of Kerala Board who has applied to DU’s St Stephen’s College, no cut- off can prove to be a hurdle this year.

At a time when Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) has made applicants doubt the possibility of scoring a perfect 100 in at least four subjects, Sreelakshmi’s report card is quite the shocker.

A student of commerce, she has scored full marks in all her six subjects.

"Not only does she have 100 per cent in her best- of- four aggregate, but also in all the six subjects,” said N. Raghunathan, teacher in- charge, economics.

Nissan drives to B- schools for brand promotion

The automobile company has invited management students from across the country to showcase their business skills, creative thinking and people handling skills.

Nissan Motor India has driven down to Bschools to promote its brands in India, especially Micra. The automobile company has invited management students from across the country to showcase their business skills, creative thinking and people handling skills as part of its student brand manager programme.

The students for the programme, who will be selected by advertising veteran Prahlad Kakkar, Harish Bijoor Consults Inc chief executive officer Harish Bijoor and Autocar India Magazine editor Hormazd Sorabjee, will be trained by Nissan’s marketing team before starting work as Nissan Student Brand Managers from July to December 2011.

“ This is the second year of the Nissan Student Brand Manager Program and we are inviting applications from 150 colleges across 15 cities in India,” said Dinesh Jain, chief executive officer ( CEO), Hover Automotive India ( HAI), which is Nissan Motor India’s exclusive partner for sales, marketing, after sales, dealer development and customer relationship in India.

“ Nissan will spend ` 1 crore on this activity,” Jain said. “ Students will get hands on experience in brand building. It will help them after they join the corporate world.

Such initiatives are common abroad. As India is growing fast, we also require a lot of such initiatives,” said Bijoor.

Each student brand manager will be given ` 30,000 as stipend and ` 20,000 as marketing budget for the six- month period by Nissan to implement their initiatives. Each student will also be given a kit that will include a digital camera, visiting cards, T- shirt and jacket.

The students, if needed, will also be given a Micra during the training period, to help popularise the brand. “ This will help them conduct the marketing activities in a professional manner,” said Jain, adding that the students will play a key role in bringing brand Nissan closer to the student community.

Nissan is inviting applications from second- year students of business schools such as K. J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and Kolkata, University Business School, Chandigarh, and S. P. Jain MIR, Mumbai.

“ We are targeting around 1,200 entries out of which 20 will be selected for the programme,” said Jain.
